Get ready for our vibrant June artist highlight as we turn the spotlight on Kara Crowley, a native New Orleans artist known as @artlifeofkaramarie. (Art page: @artbykaramariee) From captivating oil paintings to versatile skills in sculpting and spray painting, Kara's artistry is truly extraordinary.
Join us in celebrating her empowering exhibitions at Abstract Nola @abstractnola and the Ogden Museum @ogdenmuseum. Her most recent masterpiece “We are an endangered species” was at University of New Orleans. It’s focused on black love, empowerment, and culture. I was able to visit the exhibit and there were great pieces. Some show the shades of Black people by not just skin tone, but hair texture. The connection with a black women and their hair is something that goes back many years from mother to daughter, sister to sister and on. Another great piece demonstrates the young black man and how we need to love and protect them. Multiple arms are hugging him with different shades and it is beautifully done. I especially enjoyed this one because it gives a strong emphasis on our youth and why they are so important. Kara already plays a great role with guiding young people already with her art so this piece was very impactful. We were also able to catch up with her when she painted one of the utility boxes in the city. You can check it out at 813 Gravier st in New Orleans. If you are looking to see more of her work make sure to check out her instagram. Kara we are excited to have you as our most recent featured artist and can’t wait to see what you have next!
