JonnyThundaFuck - August 2024

For August’s artist highlight we would like to take the spotlight and shine it upon a brilliant mind and dear friend Jonny Rey aka ( @jonnythundafuck ).

We first met Jonny at a sneaker expo when we were in high school and, knew that he was a different kind of person by his style and similar interest. He is truly a jack of all trades from a being a Dj, to a graphic designer to doing architecture and more. Always viewing himself as an artist, he would often be inspired by the aesthetic of the world around him.

He would start by drawing and painting, but once computers got involved he knew that this was his calling. He would take multiple computer software and design classes to dig deeper and feed his creativity. This would result in him moving from 2-D designs to 3-D. Jonny would also create three different clothing brands, help his peers with their designs, create animations, and mixtape covers. Zide was one of first creations that came to him in a dream. He defines it as “my brain branded” and the result of all the ideas that were in his head. Being a DJ is also a big part of his journey as this is how a lot of people found him. To Jonny, the main reason he did it was “so I could hear Future and Young Thug in the club”. Creating sets accompanied by artwork he designed, Jonny helped shape New Orleans culture with music, art, and fashion. He credits a lot of this to his family.

During this interview, Jonny curated the space and sounds which is a prime example of his creative control and flexibility. Jonny also has a landscaping business called ICuts @Icuts_landscaping that allows him to work with his hands, but also satisfy his creativity in a different way. “It’s something about seeing a lawn perfectly symmetrical that pleases the look and aesthetic he goes for.”

In the end, Jonny just wants to be remembered as a “City Legend” which we can say he already is with the amount of people he has touched and inspired. If you’d like to know more about Jonny you can contact him via instagram. You can also see one of his biggest pieces at ModspaceLA. What was your first Jonnythundafuck experience?
