Ceaux - December 2024
To finish off the year, our highlighted artist for December is well known New Orleans native Ceaux (@ceauxartwork ).
Ceaux is a tattoo artist, designer, painter on multiple mediums. He began his journey in art by painting and drawing just like most children in grade school. It was in fourth grade when his teachers began to make a big deal of his of his work. As he continued through school, he would often paint G Nikes, and design shirts, whether airbrush or paint fabric. He recalls the time when his friend connected him with a guy named Jesse that introduced him to tattooing. He would begin to learn on the side, but it wasn’t until Jesse stopped working there was when he would be forced to learn on the go.
One of his most proud moments was when he got the chance to tattoo rapper Juvenile and asking him tons of questions during the session. When asked what inspires him Ceaux says simply “people.” He goes on to say that he’s very observant and pays a lot of attention to detail so pulling inspiration from just about anything is simple. “The design energy is everything and everything that is made somebody drew it”. Ceaux views himself more as an engineer than an artist and in his words “art is something I’ve learned how to engineer”.
Ceaux is also a painter of cars and has quite the old school collection. His family were have all been car people so having a love for cars is not uncommon. He recalls the time when he painted his Camaro which he purchased from someone on Facebook. He says all of the cars he’s bought have been from marketplace. He looks for cars that aren’t in the best condition because he knows he’ll fix them up anyway. Him and his friends are experienced in either painting or mechanics so they help one another get their cars where they need to be.
He has worked with many well known brands such as Adidas, NFL, Vista Print and many more. He has now started making his own furniture pieces which were on display at his most recent art exhibit.
Ceaux already has an idea of what the future holds as having things mapped out plays an important role in his life. He bases a lot of his future projects on his children in order to make sure there is and even balance in spending time with them. He would notice that as they grew, his kids would pick up on his constant schedule. He knows how important being there for those moments are and finding projects that allow him to be flexible is key. From attending volleyball games to art events shortly after. Ceaux keeps a good balance of work and family.
